Rural Health Clinics

RHCs are healthcare facilities and they work with nurses, physician assistants, and certified nurse midwives to provide services to common life-threatening injuries and acute illnesses.

There are 2 types of RHCs:

  1. Provider-based RHCs are hospital-owned: Operated as part of a hospital and governed by that organization. They are located in non-urban areas.
  2. Independent RHCs are free-standing clinics owned by a provider: They may be owned and/or operated by a larger healthcare system.
